THE FASHION OF CHOCOLATE!

Posted by: laylay on: 11/23/2009

I never thought that chocolate and fashion could ever really go together like this. This is new and amazing to me; so amazing I just had to share it with all of you. There is a Chocolate Show in New York, where fashion designers, pastry chefs and chocolatiers joined forces to create wild one-of-a-kind edible outfits.

Baskin Robbins

Baskin Robbins chose to debut Swiss Chocolate Treasure, a new ice cream flavor that mixes chocolate with lavender, at the Chocolate Show this year. Model Keenyah Hill, a former contestant on America’s Next Top Model, wore the dress, which was designed by New York’s Brasserie 8 1/2 pastry chef Martin Howard. Keenyah even wore a necklace made of the ice cream shop’s famous pink spoons!

Peanut Butter and Co.

Lee Zalben of Peanut Butter & Company joined forces with the National Peanut Board and Broadway costume designer Gregory Gale to create this chic chocolate party dress. “We tried to think of how to make peanut butter fun,” Gale said. The dress featured gold-leaded peanuts, feathers, and chocolate-coated bracelets. Mission accomplished.

Heatherette

“This was the only dress we made that we actually gained weight with,” said Travor Raines of Heatherette. He and designing buddy Richie Rich were inspired by the holiday season, and all of the cookies that come with it. They submitted their sketch to Jorg Amsler, who covered cookies in white chocolate and airbrushed them with custom-made food coloring to create this colorful concoction. We love the gingerbread hat!

Olyia Mimkho

Pastry Chef Johnny Iuzzini joined forces with Mimkho to create a sweet-but-sexy Victorian look, complete with a white chocolate corset, chocolate and floral bonnet, and parasol.

Amanda Marcalus

It’s no surprise that Charlie and the Chocolate Factory inspired some of the looks for this fashion show. Marcalus teamed up with pastry chef Andrew Comey to create homage to their favorite childhood movie. The pair drizzled chocolate down the front of the jacket to give the illusion that the model was underneath a chocolate fountain, the lace skirt has golden tickets on it and the top hat is wrapped with white chocolate that was dyed purple to add some color. To finish off the look, a chocolate wrapped cane and a large golden ticket in hand do the trick.

Ann Hould-Ward

Tony Award-winning designer Ann Hould-Ward (the woman behind the fashions in Broadway’s Beauty and the Beast) and Culinary Olympic gold medal winner Chef Steve Evetts created ‘Spirit in the Wind’–the same theme that guided Evetts to four gold medals at the 2004 Culinary Olympics in Germany. Needless to say, these guys take chocolate pretty seriously–even the feathers on the head dress were carefully hand dipped one by one into white chocolate.

WHO’S THAT LADY?

Posted by: laylay on: 11/18/2009

Everyone is quoted for some reason. Whether they’re some dumb ass celebrity who said some thing stupid or one of the greatest fashion icons in the world. An icon that started making hats and has transformed her into an international brand name. Miss Coco Chanel is some of the best quotes. Here are 3 I like:

  1. There is no fashion for the old. – Coco Chanel
  2. I don’t do fashion, I am fashion. – Coco Chanel
  3. Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening. – Coco Chanel

WILL U TRANSFORM?

I love this song and this video. Chris Brown is an amazing dancer. I love the fact that Lil Wayne and Swizz Beats are in this video, i can never get enough of these 3 hot men. The moves that he does require lots of time and practice. I imagine that he rehearses his moves for hours, until they are prefect. Because when he actually gets out there and does it, he makes it look effortless. As if it just came to him and he didn’t have to practice at all.

But take it from me I work with a lot of dancers and I have a little dance in my past too. Not to mention that my mother used to be a dancer, she can still cut a rug when she wants to. I don’t know what it is about this song that I like so much. It might be everything, from the lyrics, the beat, and the milady.

The outfits on the ladies in this video were absolutely wonderful. They showed of their curves and unique styles but it was also sexy. Most were fully clothed it still brought that sexy appeal that every man artist video wants, without having the women out there with their boobs and their ass hanging out. Who ever styled this video I commend you, because you apparently know that sexy sells more than sex innuendoes.

MISS “SEXY” HOLLOWAY

Posted by: laylay on: 11/17/2009

Mad Men

Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks embodies the role of femme fatale, Joan Holloway a “bold” and “sassy” character, and a role model for all the female office workers. She’s a vixen! A sex symbol! A goddess in tailored office-wear! Joan is the office sex symbol, with the tight fitting clothes that emphasis her curves but still leaves thing to the imagination. Joan is the real life 1960s Jessica Rabbit.

She is beautiful with curves and she isn’t afraid to show the off.

While everyone else is trying to evoke the past in their fashions, Joan is in the past. When you get to wear dresses cinched at the waist in bold colors like bright red, cobalt blue and forest green from top to knee-length and rich fabrics, it pays to be stuck in the past. With her fair complexion and red hair, every brightly colored piece of clothing looks even more vibrant. Most stunning? A fire engine red, knee-length dresses with a peach lip on an actress who isn’t thin.

The character is “hot” because she’s got that fire to her. She snaps back. And men love her because she’s in touch with her sexuality and femininity. The men in the office can play with her a little bit. They can tease her, and she’s not going to be in the bathroom crying later.

In the season two episode “Maiden form” each secretary is categorized as either a Marilyn Monroe or a Jackie Kennedy as a campaign for Playtex, what kind of woman is Holloway; Joan is really a Marilyn.

MAD ROLES

Posted by: laylay on: 11/16/2009

Set in 1960, at a moment when admen represented all that was glamorous–and corrupt–about postwar American consumer culture, Mad Men follows the personal and professional lives of the men (and women) of Sterling Cooper, a slick Madison Avenue advertising agency.

Reflecting the realities of the times, on “Mad Men,” women are “assigned” very specific roles. At the office their job is to patiently wait for the men to make all the important decisions and then to robotically scurry to their typewriters to record them. They’re also supposed to flirt with their male bosses and to be the object of sexual innuendoes and passes. If they don’t like what they hear, the “established” routine is for them to go into the ladies’ room, take out their hankies, and cry ever so softly before the mirror; not forgetting to fix their mascara before returning to their desks.

The role model for all the female office workers is the office manager, Joan Holloway, who apparently has had affairs with practically every male executive. Joan dresses provocatively and serves as the “mother hen,” scolding women who don’t fit the routines she has established.

They are also expected to cover for their bosses when the men decide to sneak out during the day to cheat on their respective spouses.

At home, the wives’ roles are also clearly defined. They are to shop, clean, tend to the kids, and prepare a nice dinner for hubby when he returns home from his job. Naturally, they have to be ready to “service” their men in the bedroom whenever he feels the urge.

If the little woman does not adequately satisfy her spouse, it is almost expected that he will find someone outside the home to cheat with. The man is free to say and do what he pleases, no matter how rude or disrespectful it is. As long as he has a dick between his legs he is in control.

TRENDSETTERS on a BUDGET

Although I can’t fit into anything they offer I still love their trendy and unique clothes. GoJane.com has a very nice selection of affordable clothes that are one of a kind.

The website says that: “GoJane.com is an Internet retailer of fashion forward apparel for progressive young women. We specialize in offering unique and daring styles that can’t be found elsewhere. “Trendy” is the name of the game, but don’t let that stop you! You can get great deals on items any woman needs for her wardrobe, and if you are like me you don’t think being in step with the times is such a bad thing after all (I’ll skip the platform sandals though).

The majority of their new and unique fashion dresses are available for less than $30, so you can sport celebrity style on any budget. In addition to unbeatably low prices, most of these casual dresses transition to semi formal dresses with the addition of some flashy heels and sophisticated jewelry.

They are constantly updating their inventory so you can receive the most extensive selection of fashion-forward apparel for the best price. Walking up to me

With your tired old lines

And your hidden agendas

Talking bout, “Hey mama!

How you doing? Can I hit that?”

Expecting me to swoon and

Lay on my back.

Well, baby you got another thing coming

Because I’m not fin to loosen up my buttons.

You better come correct

And show me some respect.

My father above gave

Me the ultimate love.

Approach me with something else on your mind

With something real to say.

MAC IS BACK!

Colour plus texture for the lips. Stands out on the runway. Shimmering  on the street! What made M·A·C famous. In over 149 different colors, MAC is the most famous cosmetic company that I have ever heard of. being sold in millions of stores world-wide. There is not a woman alive that doesn’t know about MAC, from the gloss to the lip stick. Not including eyes, skin care, face, blush, and multi-purpose. They also have fragrances, bags, nails, tools and brushes. MAC caters to all kinds of skin shades; from blue- black to clear- pale. When i think of MAC I think of high-priced, well to do women. but that’s not the case, it’s just women who have the money to splurge on themselves.

DO YOU DO THE FLOWIE?

Posted by: laylay on: 11/04/2009

Flowie’s products are made of 100% linen, linen/cotton blend or 100% cotton fabrics with original textile designs using water-based inks. Due to the nature of linen goods, slubs, picks and chaff are inherent in the fabric. Our fabrics are silk-screen printed by hand. Variations in color may occur.

All of the linen and cotton fabrics can be hand washed (preferably) or machine-washed in cold water on gentle cycle in a laundry bag to prevent bag handles from being tangled up with your other clothings. To prevent too much shrinkage, please hang dry. Expect about 1~3 % shrinkage after the first wash. To treat stains, use non-chlorine stain removers only. Do NOT bleach.

THE WHO?…THE SARTORIALIST

Posted by: laylay on: 11/04/2009

The popular Sartorialist fashion blog transforms everyday men and women into supermodels, with photos of people on the street who clearly demonstrate a tremendous sense of style and comments describing the most fabulous aspects of their look. When Scott Schuman started the website in 2005, by taking photos of people he saw in New York, he hoped to shrink the gap between the hyper-stylized fashions of the runway and the practical clothes worn to work by regular people. Schuman’s blog has become an Internet sensation, drawing more than 100,000 hits per day, and he now travels the globe to find ordinary people displaying extraordinary fashion. The book features dozens of the most popular photos and blogs from the site, along with many all-new selections of stylish citizens from New York, Milan, Paris and more.
